Pirtek Racing tops the times at BTCC official test

Rockingham TestingPirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan edged out Jason Plato to post the quickest time during an official Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship test at Rockingham on Tuesday. The youngster from Staffordshire who celebrated his 21st birthday on Monday, stormed to the top of the timesheets during the morning session and remained unbeaten for the duration of the test.

Jordan posted a quickest time of 1min 23.886secs during the morning session at the wheel of his Pirtek Racing Vauxhall Vectra, and was able to edge out Jason Plato's Chevrolet Cruze by a narrow margin for the fastest time of the day. Plato, who was the only person to lap below 1min 24secs during the afternoon, ended up just 0.001secs slower.

Jordan commented after the test session, "We came here with some set-up tweaks in mind, stuff we've never tried before, and they've transformed the car. The handling is phenomenal through the mid-high speed corners – we've got rid of the understeer on turn-in – and that bodes well for the BTCC's next round at Oulton Park as there are some similar sections there. The changes we've made also make the car kinder on its tyres. I'm delighted with today."

James Nash was third quickest for Triple Eight at the wheel of the Vectra he raced for the first time in the Rockingham races earlier this year with Matt Neal – who sits level on points with Plato in the championship standings finishing up fourth.

Jordan and the Pirtek Racing team now prepare for the fifth round of the 2010 BTCC at Oulton Park in Cheshire on the 5th/6th May with the aim to maintain their momentum and be at the front.
