Knockhill Review Roy Powell

Treacherous conditions, safety cars, controversy and incidents were the story of the day at Knockhill as the BTCC headed north of the border to the roller coaster Scottish circuit over the August bank holiday weekend.

Both Wix Racing with Eurotech Honda Type R’s of Jack Goff and Brett Smith showed good pace in Free Practice with Goff second fastest in FP1 and Smith seventh fastest in FP2 however the twisting tight nature of the circuit with 31 cars all trying to get space proved impossibly difficult to string together a lap in qualifying with Goff struggling to find a clear lap in P17 and Smith faring slightly better in P11.

All three races on Sunday were full wet conditions, being in the midst of the fighting mid-field train it was a case of damage limitation with virtually no visibility, particularly in race 2. Goff managed to fight his way to three points finishes in P15, P8 and P9. Smith finishing in P13, P19 and a DNF in race three after receiving damage when another car slowed suddenly without warning in front of him to pull in to the pitlane, ending his race and a frustrating day.

It was another difficult round for the team but they remain focussed now on the next two rounds at Silverstone and Brands Hatch GP, both circuits they have had success at and will head to confident of bouncing back to winning ways.

Taking the positives, the Wix Racing with Eurotech Team remain P3 in the Independent Teams Championship, just eight points away from leaders Speedworks. Although Jack Goff has slipped down in the Driver’s Championship to P8 he is still mathematically in contention and good results at Silverstone could see him back near the top of the table. This is BTCC and anything can happen, with six races remaining it’s all to play for.
